About Hazrat Inayat Khan
Hazrat Inayat Khan was born in Baroda, India, on July 5th, 1882. He studied music at the Gayan Shala Musical Academy in Baroda (founded by his famous grandfather Maula Bakhsh, court musician of the Maharaj a of Baroda). He travelled throughout India and became very well known as a court singer and saraswati veena player. In his travels he studied the religous and mystical orders of India.
At the age of twenty eight he left for the West, together with his brothers, bringing classical Indian music to the West. They performed in the great concert halls of Europe and America.
In his later years, Hazrat Inayat Khan founded the Sufi Order and the Sufi Movement. He delivered the message of love, harmony and beauty, of the unity of religous ideals, and of the oneness of all beings beyond all differences and distinctions of caste and clans, race and nation, creed and religion. He passed away in Delhi on February 5th 1927. His Dargah is in the Hazrat Nizamuddin area of New Delhi.
