The Desert Winter Retreat

Finding Khidr - the Source of Life - in the Desert

Working with Spirit and Truth
Dec. 28 - Jan 1

"According to the mystics, Khidr, 'the green man in the desert', is always present at any initiation or spiritual breakthrough. The encounter with Khidr is the encounter with the Source of Life. The desert is yellow until the rain comes, and then it becomes green, the color of the Element Water; in the same way, when Khidr appears to the contemplative, he restores one to the real life of spirit. He is sought in the desert of silence and purity, but found in the depth of the heart which has been opened by Divine Love." -- Susanna Bair

Christ was tested in His desert retreat. Advice from the Christian Desert Fathers...
"Let us go forward with the heart completely attentive and the soul fully conscious. The goal is to treasure the presence of God in our heart as a priceless pearl. And so every hour and every moment let us zealously guard our heart from thoughts that obscure the mirror of our soul. Let us continuously seek the kingdom within our heart and we will certainly find it; for Christ said, "The kingdom of God is within you." (Luke 17:20) -- Philotheus of Sinai, 6th century

The IAM Winter Retreat will start December 28 and continue to noon Jan 1, in the desert outside of Tucson, Arizona at the Hacienda del Bac.

The main activity of the retreat will be group meditation, and especially the classic meditation practice called "Dhikr".

New Year's Eve will feature a prayer for the New Year and a meditation on sending magnetic waves of peace to the whole world.

January 1st is the birthday of Noor-un-nisa Inayat Khan, the daughter of Hazrat Inayat Khan, the source of our work. She was a key member of the French underground, being the last operator to send radio reports to England, until she was betrayed, captured and tortued to death. The day will be devoted to her memory and the inpiration we can draw from her life, as the prototype of knighthood in our time.

Private Retreats

"Sunrise Mountain",
from which you watch the sun rise over Tucson.

The new IAM Retreat Center is now open for individual retreatants. It consists of a separate retreat house next to the home of Susanna and Puran Bair, in Tucson, Arizona. In a private retreat, you follow a schedule of meditation practices in five periods:

  1. 3 to 4 am sacred hour meditation
  2. 6 to 7 am sunrise meditation on the mountain
  3. 9 am to noon morning meditation
  4. 2 to 6 pm afternoon meditation
  5. 8 to 10 pm evening meditation

Susanna Bair guides the retreats in two private sessions per day, at 8 am and 7 pm, each one hour long. A hot dinner is provided daily. The minimum retreat is three days; the maximum is 28 days.

Expect a breakthrough! The individual retreat is the best way to make rapid progress in deepening your Heart Rhythm Meditation and developing your heart.
